Access by air

Flights arrive at the Tallinn Ülemiste airport (airport code TLL), aso called "Lennart Meri Airport"after the former Estonian president. Cheap flights are offered by the local airline "Estonian Air" (direct) as well as Air Baltic (via Riga). Estonian Air is part of the Star Alliance (Lufthansa, SAS, United/Continental etc.). The airport is very close to the city near Lake Ülemiste. From the airport you can take a taxi to the conference hotel, the ride should not cost you more than EUR 15,-. Important: There are several Meriton Hotels in Tallinn, make sure you get to the Meriton Grand Conference & Spa hotel on Paldiski Maantie.

If you want to access the hotel in a more environmentally friendly way, take bus number 90 K from the airport to "Hotell Tallinn" (one after the railway station "Balti Jaam"). As you get off there, the hotel willbe on your right. Walk into the driving direction of the bus, turn right around the corner of the hotel. The reception entrance is the third one (the first leads to a restaurant and the second to a cafeteria). The bus runs on workdays from 07:30 to 18:30 every half hour. Tickets (EUR 2,-) can be bought from an stand in the arrival hall (emerging from Customs turn right). IMPORTANT: The bus leaves from the lower floor of the airport, so from the arrival hall you have to go one level down. Also note that bus 90K is a commercial bus line and NOT a part of Tallinn municipal transport system - so regular kiosk-bought tickets don't work in that service.

If you arrive late or very early, there is a EUR 5,- shuttle bus from the airport to all hotels. Tickets for this service can be bought from an stand in the arrival hall (emerging from Customs turn right).

Information about the public transport in Tallinn with maps can be found at the City of Tallinn web site. Bus schedules can be found here.

For return travel: Bus 90K leaves from the same station to the airport. Scheduled time is 17 minutes. A taxi should not take you more than 10-15 minutes. There is a taxi stall in front of the hotel where usually several taxis wait.

Access by train

This only makes sense for participants travelling from Russia or the Baltic States. Trains to Tallinn usually arrive at the "Balti Jaam" station close to the hotel. For timetables insde Estonia check the Estonian Railways website. Please note that trains generally run slower in Estonia than in Central Europe. From Balti Jaam take bus number 90 K from the airport to "Hotell Tallinn" (one stop only). Get off the bus, walk 50 m in the driving direction of the bus amd turn right onto Paldiski maantie. The hotel is on your right. The bus runs on workdays from 07:30 to 18:30 every half hour. Information about the public transport in Tallinn with maps can be found at the City of Tallinn web site. Bus schedules can be found here.

Note that bus 90K is a commercial bus line and NOT a part of Tallinn municipal transport system - so regular kiosk-bought tickets don't work in that service.

Access by own car

From Russia (St. Petersburg):
From the border at Narva take the road number 1 to Tallinn. You will enter the city at (not surprisingly)"Peterburi tee". At its end turn right unto "Tartu maantie". After 1.5 km near a huge hotel "Swissotel" turn right onto "Pronski". After further 200m turn left again onto "Gonsiori" Now keep straight on for 1.5 km via "Estonia puiestee" and "Karli puiestee". At a T- junction turn right onto "Toompuiestee". Drive on for 400m, then turn left onto "Paldiski mantie". The hotel is on your right.

From the South (Riga):
From Riga take the Latvian A1 northwards, which at the border turns into the Estonian Road 4. Stay on Road 4 and drive via Pärnu into Tallinn. Stay on Road 4 until you come to a large intersection from which you see a big church on the left in front of you. There turn left onto "Karli puiestee". At a T- junction turn right onto "Toompuiestee". Drive on for 400m, then turn left onto "Paldiski mantie". The hotel is on your right.

Parking is available near the hotel and costs EUR 5,- per day for conference guest. Parking is free for the first 15 minutes for check-in. Needless to say, as in all historical cities, parking places ae scarce in Tallinn.

A map with directions to the hotel for drivers can be found here.

Access by boat

This is a good option for guests from Finland. Frequent connections between Helsinki and Tallinn are operated by Tallink Ferries. The ferry takes about 2 hours. and prices for a single trip range between EUR 28,- to EUR 46,-. Viking Line also offers voyages between Tallinn and Helsinki, with crossing times of 2h 30 minutes and prices betwen EUR 21,- and EUR 38,- The fastedst connection is operated by Linda Line (1h our 30 min), EUR 26,- to EUR 31,-. Tallink Ferries also offers overnight ferries between Stockholm and Tallinn. However, these are often frequented by people trying (with considerable success) to get drunk as quick as possible. Sometimes flights between Stockholm and Tallinn are cheaper (especially if you include meals into your calculation).

Please note that ferries depart and arrive at different terminals. However, none is far from the conference hotel in Tallinn.

If you want to take a bus to the hotel, it is best to walk to "Linnahalli" bus station around 300m from terminals). If you arrive with Tallink Ferries, walk out from the terminal straigth ahead on "Sadama" road for 300m until you reach the Old City Ring Road. The station is on your right close to the (amazingly ugly) Soviet style town hall(Linnahalli). If you come with Linda Line, walk towards the town on the road to the terminal until you reach the ring road. The bus station is just on your right.

From"Linnahalli station"take bus number 90 K from the airport to "Hotell Tallinn" (two stations). Get off the bus, walk 50 m in the driving direction of the bus amd turn right onto Paldiski maantie. The hotel is on your right. The bus runs on workdays from 07:30 to 18:30 every half hour. Note that bus 90K is a commercial bus line and NOT a part of Tallinn municipal transport system - so regular kiosk-bought tickets don't work in that service. Information about the public transport in Tallinn with maps can be found at the City of Tallinn web site. Bus schedules can be found here.

Access by bus

Eurolines offer a bus series between Berlin and Tallinn via Kaunas, Vilnius, Riga and Pärnu. Since the travel is taking around 24 hours, this is only a viable option for conference guests from the Baltic states. There are frequent and inexpensive bus services from St.Petersburg to Tallinn. Lux Express is one of the operators. The travel between these cities takes 6-8 hours, the company also operates services Warsaw-Riga-Tallinn (22 hours) and Königsberg-Riga-Tallinn. Another bus company offering coach trael in the Baltic states is Ecolines. The buses terminate at Tallinn bus station ("Autobussijaam"). From there you can take a taxi to the hotel (should nt cost more than EUR 10,-).

Otherwise, walk out of the station onto "Odra" road, turn right and continue for 100m until you reach a big intersection with "Tartu maantie". Turn left and you will have the bus station on that road on your right. Take bus number 90 K from the airport to "Hotell Tallinn" (two stations). Get off the bus, walk 50 m in the driving direction of the bus amd turn right onto Paldiski maantie. The hotel is on your right. The bus runs on workdays from 07:30 to 18:30. Note that bus 90K is a commercial bus line and NOT a part of Tallinn municipal transport system - so regular kiosk-bought tickets don't work in that service.Information about the public transport in Tallinn with maps can be found at the City of Tallinn web site.
