If you type "albanova universitetscentrum" into Google Maps, zoom out a little and print it (or look it up on any mobile device you might have), you'll probably find us on your own, but this page gives some detailed directions.
Recall that Sweden is not in the euro zone. The currency is kronor or "crowns" (convert). You can usually pay with a credit card, but I suggest withdrawing some crowns at the airport.
I always take the airbus from the airport, tickets are available at the customer
service desk, get a round trip ticket (the return time is flexible),
something like 199 crowns.
Taxis are very expensive.
The bus is labelled "Stockholm City" and leaves every 10-15 minutes
usually from stop number 11. When you get to
the end station (central train station), follow
"T" signs for "tunnelbana" = subway. (See picture right.)
Note: if you're going to Hotel Oden and you don't mind walking, you can instead get off the airbus at the earlier "Sankt Eriksplan" stop (tell the driver you want to do this) and walk 1 km down Odengatan straight to Odenplan, where your hotel is.
It's easy to follow the T signs but here's a description anyway.
From the airbus stop you enter the building across the street (follow the crowd), go
down a few escalators from the airbus stop into the main train station hall, go down
a few more stairs down on the left side of the hall, and once you're below ground
level there's a busy walkway to the left towards the subway.
Now you are at T-centralen subway station. You can buy a single ticket at
the counter for 40 crowns (!), or an
8-ride strip at the
little store "Pressbyrån" for 180 crowns.
Now consult your printed subway map (link above). The signs to find the correct platform show the end station, and there can be multiple end stations in your direction.
When you arrive at the Tekniska Högskolan subway stop, walk out the exit in the direction of the train (the sign says Odengatan ("Odin street")). It's about a 10 minute walk to our campus on top of the hill, first up along Körsbärsvägen ("Cherry street") past the high-rise Hotel Arcadia on your left, then you should see a little fish sculpture and some playground swings and you get to Ruddammsbacken, where you keep going straight to Albanova campus.
Once you get to the Albanova campus (this is not the main campus of Stockholm University, but a separate science campus), you first see a few low yellow buildings with tall brick chimneys. If you walk in among them you see the big white building in the back. That's where I sit, and the round spaceship-looking thing is the entrance hall. When you enter, the reception is straight ahead slightly to the left. I am on that same floor, but you need a security card to enter our hall. There are three ways to deal with this:
1. At the reception, tell them my name, they will call me and I come and greet you. They close around 4:30pm, and sometimes they are temporarily out.
2. If you have a cell phone, you can always call my office at +46 8 5537 8848 if the reception is unmanned.
3. If the reception is unmanned and you don't have a cell phone: walk straight ahead from the reception. You are now in front of a glass door. Don't enter, but walk left until you get to the next identical glass door. Enter (it'll be open), and you are standing in front of the entrance to our corridor (you'll see little photographs of people in our group, and the code A52). If you knock distinctly enough, I will hear you and come and open.
Welcome!
There is an alternative and perhaps slightly faster route (that I haven't tried): tell the airport bus driver you want to get off the bus at the earlier stop Haga Forum, then walk directly to us. This is described at Nordita (my building is the curved thing right above Nordita on their map). I would still suggest you follow my directions of going through T-centralen as described above -- less room for error -- but this alternative route could be an option if you are in a hurry and you don't mind walking.
