Prior to replacement, waveforms and noise (with and without the VLF running)
will be measured for the 40
channels and for 20 reference channels in the same string. After the
replacement the new pick-up boxes will be left running until Sunday to check
satbility. Meanwhile waveforms and noise will be measured for three
channels in each of the remaining strings, one in the top, one in the
middle and one in the bottom. | Done. | The noise has

remaining 34 pick-up boxes will be changed too. |
Partly done. | The two pick-up boxes give higher noise than
before, due to the 1458 (2003) power supply. This has been
investigated. The noise can be strongly reduced by moving the quad
cables away from the power supply and changing the bandwidth of the
SWAMP card. Two new pick-up boxes have been put in string 1 (B4
01/04) and string 12 (B13 05/06). The VLF signal is blocked and the
noise levels are the same as before the replacement. |
